“Peace comes from within. Do not seek it without.” – Buddha

Buddhism is a religion that was founded by Siddhartha Gautama, who later became known as “The Buddha” more than 2,500 years ago in India, and was born into a wealthy family as a prince in present-day Nepal. Buddhism is still widely practiced from all corners of the world. Celebrities who practice Buddhism, include George Lucas, Kate Hudson, Richard Gere, and the late Steve Jobs.

What does Buddha mean?

Buddha’  generally means ‘Awakened One’, or ‘ Enlightened One’ and a knower that embraces all living creatures with love and without discrimination. It can also be known as someone who has awakened from the sleep of ignorance and sees things as they really are. A Buddha is one who has attained Bodhi. Bodhi means wisdom and an ideal state of intellectual and ethical perfection which can be achieved by man through purely human means.

Some may view Buddhism as a religion, but with my own experience with the practice, I see it more as a spiritual and deeper way of understanding and engaging with life, that can in return create an inner grounding of peace, love, and serenity within oneself.
