“I wasn’t born with my Jimmycho heels on” – Jessica Mordue

Do you ever look in the mirror and think to yourself “Damn my bodies perfect!”?

Being a size 12-14 and sometimes a 16 I use to hate looking in the mirror with no makeup and looking at my naked body. I struggled with my body image and just saw my broad shoulders, childbearing hips, chubby cheeks and well I just thought I didn’t look feminine enough. This affected my mental state and lead me to some unhealthy eating habits and depression.

One way I dealt with my insecurities was through fashion.

Whenever you put on your favorite item of clothing and you’re makeups looking good you feel confident, beautiful and empowered. It’s a way of expressing who we are as a person. From the Gothic to the bohemian, to the preppy, to the sporty or sexy and glamour styles. It’s a creative expression that accentuates our uniqueness.

However, I wasn’t born with my Jimmycho heals on. All of us were born naked and the clothes we wear today are just merely another layer of skin that allows us to express ourselves but is it who we really are.

Many people around the world hide behind fashion trends because they think its what makes them beautiful. We can all follow the same fashion trends we see on Instagram or in the magazines. But if we strip all that back the clothes the hair, the makeup, would you still love yourself the same way? Would you still post as many barefaced selfies on social media that the world could see?

It doesn’t help when all you see on social media these days are the “model” types in bikinis or the glamours Kardashians flaunting there big booties and tiny waists. The expectations on women to look a certain way can be overwhelming an unrealistic. Not to mention what the phycological effects it could have on our young girls growing up.

Fashion is fun! But without the clothes on our back, do you love and accept the body you see in the mirror? Do you see cellulite, sagging boobs, big hips or the wrinkles under your eyes? Or do you see sexy curves that may have brought life into the world or a beautiful face that has a story to tell?Jessica Mordue

Everyone will have a negative projection of themselves and their body but there is no one else like you. So embrace it! Be proud and never be ashamed. And if you want to change something, do it for you but never lose sight of what makes you…YOU!

I used to hate looking in the mirror with no makeup and a naked body. But I realize now it had nothing to do with not knowing who I was because WHO I AM  is the girl with no makeup with my beautiful strong powerful broad shoulders and childbearing hips of a body.  I realized fashion is a highlight of my personality not who I am.

Look at your body as beautiful not ugly because at the end of the day we come into the world with nothing but our naked bodies and we leave with nothing. Value what you have because your body may be your worst nightmare, but it could be someone else’s dream.

The reason why I’m writing this article is to let people know that no matter what shape, size, color, hairstyle, fashion we have, we are all strong and beautiful from the inside out.

I’m not saying don’t wear makeup or the fashion you want because it’s one of the fun expressions of being a woman. I’m saying it’s just another layer of skin and fabric. Therefore we are never to forget about the women inside because after all there’s only one of you and you are the real beauty. And let’s face it, nobodies perfect! X
